Minecraft banners are crafted on a loom using a base cloth color plus up to 6 pattern layers. Each layer applies a coloured shape on top of the previous result, the order matters because layers paint over each other. This tool replicates that exact system so what you see in the preview is what you get in-game.
Start by picking your base cloth color (the background of the banner), then add pattern layers one at a time. Each layer has a shape and a dye color. Once you're happy with the design, copy the /give command and paste it directly into Minecraft Java Edition chat.
Every pattern available in the Minecraft loom is included here, organised into groups. The Stripes & Halves group covers horizontal, vertical, and diagonal bands, the building blocks of most flag and guild designs. Corners & Quarters lets you fill individual quadrants of the banner. Shapes includes the chevron, lozenge, saltire, circle, and cross. Borders & Gradients adds decorative edges and smooth colour fades.
The Special group contains the four charge patterns that each require a unique loom ingredient: the Skull Charge (wither skeleton skull), Creeper Charge (creeper head), Flower Charge (oxeye daisy), and Thing (enchanted golden apple, the Mojang logo).
The tool supports both Java Edition command formats. Modern (1.20.5+) uses the new component syntax with named pattern IDs and color strings, for example: /give @p minecraft:red_banner[banner_patterns=[{pattern:"minecraft:stripe_top",color:"white"}]] 1. Legacy NBT uses the older BlockEntityTag format required for Java 1.13–1.20.4, with two-letter pattern codes and numeric color IDs.
You can also switch the Item to Shield to apply the same design to a shield, or use /setblock to place a banner directly in the world at your current coordinates.
The generated commands work in Minecraft Java Edition anywhere you're allowed to run commands: a singleplayer world with cheats enabled, or a multiplayer server where you have operator permissions. If cheats are off, open the pause menu, choose Open to LAN, enable cheats, and start; or follow the Loom Steps panel instead and craft the banner legitimately in survival.
With /give, the finished banner appears in your inventory, ready to place or copy. With /setblock, the banner is placed directly into the world: the ~ ~ ~ coordinates mean "right where you're standing", so run it where you want the banner, or replace them with exact coordinates. The Placement option controls whether it spawns as a standing banner (with a rotation of 0–15) or mounted on a wall (facing north, east, south, or west; make sure a solid block is behind that spot).
Minecraft chat has a 256 character limit. If your design's command is longer, the tool warns you. Instead of chat, give yourself a command block with /give @p minecraft:command_block, place it, paste the command inside (command blocks accept longer commands), and power it with a redstone block or button.
Getting an error? Check that the Version toggle matches your game: the modern format needs Java 1.20.5 or newer, and the Legacy NBT format covers Java 1.13–1.20.4. Bedrock Edition uses a different command system, so use the loom steps there instead.
Up to 6 loom pattern layers. Each layer is applied in order, later layers paint over earlier ones, so the sequence matters. Simple designs like a flag or stripe need 2–3 layers; complex designs like letters or emblems often use all 6.
Yes. Each layer row has ▲ and ▼ buttons to move it up or down, a duplicate button to copy it, and an × to delete it. Layers are applied top-to-bottom in the list, matching the loom order in-game, so moving a layer changes what paints over what. There is also full Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y, or the arrows above the layer list).
Each loom step requires one dye matching the layer color and one banner pattern item matching the pattern shape (e.g., a Flower Charge pattern item for the Flower shape). The Loom Steps panel lists exactly what you need for each layer. Place the banner, dye, and pattern item in the loom, then select the design.
Minecraft Java 1.20.5 changed the command format from NBT tags to the new component system. If your server or client is on 1.13–1.20.4, use the Legacy NBT toggle. If you're on 1.20.5 or newer, use the Modern format.
The SVG preview uses the same geometry as Minecraft's actual banner texture, scaled to the same 20×40 unit grid. Colors match Minecraft's 16 dye palette. The main visual difference is that Minecraft renders banners with a cloth texture and lighting, while the preview is flat vector, but the pattern shapes and colors will be identical.
